Gaza Remains the Story: Exhibition

Gaza Remains the Story 2

The signing of the ceasefire agreement has largely pushed Gaza off the news cycle. However, after 15 months of Israeli genocide, Israel continues to ramp up its aggressive tactics in Gaza and the West Bank. This exhibition re-centres Gaza and asks us to retell the story of Gaza and Palestine, not as a battleground but as a place with its own unique history, culture and experience. It demands that we engage with Gaza in its own right, with a specific focus on the land, places, and people of Gaza. The exhibition strives to inform, educate, and narrate stories of historical locations and cultural practices in Gaza, providing a glimpse into Gaza’s arts, aspirations, and uniqueness – what remains of it in these harsh times.

This exhibition is provided by the Palestinian Museum in the West Bank, and is curated by people involved in the pro-Palestine movement in Sheffield. Over the last year, the city has seen people organising in their workplaces, homes, neighbourhoods, at the council, and at both universities. As the first City of Sanctuary, the city has been at the forefront of campaigning for Palestinians. This exhibition seeks to create a space for these organising conversations to continue while centring Gaza, noting that our freedoms are tied together and we must continue organising and fighting together for a Free Palestine.

The exhibition has been curated in Sheffield by Dr Annapurna Menon.
