Abtisam Mohamed

Abtisam began her work in community regeneration over 20 years ago, starting off as a volunteer and progressing to be the Chief Executive of a local charity delivering a range of different community services.

Initially qualifying as a teacher, Abtisam is now a practicing solicitor serving in Immigration, Asylum and Human Rights Law. She advocated for people legally whilst simultaneously working in the community sector.

Her background in community activism drives her politics. She is committed to social justice and tackling the widening inequality divide. In 2016 she was elected as a Councillor representing the Firth Park, a deprived ward, in Sheffield. She became the first woman of Yemeni decent to enter politics in the UK. Abtisam was appointed Cabinet Member for Education and Skills in May 2019.
