Our current government is undermining liberal democracy, creating divisions in our society and failing to address the climate crisis. These actions and inactions have profound consequences, and surely all decent-minded people would agree that this is a time to put the country ahead of narrow party interests - that more unites the progressive-minded parties in the UK than divides them.
This two-stage event will first hear from a number of nationally-recognised figures, including Jon Cruddas MP and journalist Zoe Williams on political attitudes towards a common agenda for the progressive parties, on voting patterns nationally and on the tactical voting options within individual constituencies - including recent case studies. Dr Khalil Secker, an NHS doctor and Compass member from London will also be joining us to talk about his own research. This part of the event has been organised by the Festival of Debate and will be delivered by a nationally-available webinar, but we'll be watching it together in Sheffield at Union St.
We'll then be taking the opportunity in the second part of the event to discuss how we respond locally to the issues raised. Representatives from the Green, Labour and Liberal Democrat parties in the Penistone and Stocksbridge, Rother Valley, Don Valley and High Peak constituencies are being invited to attend.
The event will be chaired by Natalie Bennett, member of the House of Lords, British politician and former leader of the Green Party.
